Sakuu Partners with NGK to Provide Materials to Advance 3D Printed Solid-State Battery Lineup

The long-term, multi-phase partnership will provide Sakuu with ceramic battery materials for its custom, high-performance, and safe 3D-printed solid-state batteries.

SAN JOSE, Calif. – (BUSINESS WIRE) – September 20, 2022 -Sakuu (, developer of the world’s first 3D-printed solid-state battery, today announced that it has entered into a memorandum of understanding with Japanese company NGK Spark Plugs CO., LTD. (“NGK”), a world leader in electrochemical materials and a tier-one industrial automotive supplier. Under the MOU, NGK will co-develop and supply ceramic materials for Sakuu’s solid-state battery production, from ongoing battery material requirements at its California pilot line plant to commercialization at scale of its line of additively manufactured solid-state batteries – expected to be commercialized in 2023.

Using a new method of additive manufacturing, in which proprietary technology enables the printing of glass, metals, polymers and ceramics in a single layer, as well as proprietary cell chemistry, Sakuu is able to deploy manufacturing at scale of next-generation solid-state batteries — widely regarded as one of the biggest challenges facing solid-state battery developers.

Sakuu will 3D print
