On the strength of best in class Supply Chain performance, Dell Technologies reported third-quarter 2023 revenue that beat consensus revenue expectations and shattered earnings expectations. The company, however, lowered its guidance for the fourth quarter amid continued uncertainty.

But the company’s report was really about how supply chain strategy and tactics fueled its bottom line. About half of the outperformance — adjusted earnings of $2.30 per share versus the Wall Street consensus of $1.60 — came from lower component and logistics costs in the quarter.

“Logistics costs have gone down. As the supply is now greater than the demand, we are able to put things on the ocean. We don’t need to speed up so much. We don’t use expedited air freight as much,” vice president and co-COO Jeff Clarke said during the company’s earnings call. “These all go into our input cost equation, which obviously helped us with the results and performance this quarter.”

Company Cut Operating Expenses 5% Sequentially and 12% Year-Over-Year Quarter; these figures were also helped by a slowdown in hiring.

At the same time, executives reinforced Dell’s focus and commitment to product development innovation. COVID-19 has highlighted how fragile the supply chain can be, but manufacturers and contract packers (CM/CP) can use predictive analytics to make their supply chain more resilient and gain an edge over their competitors.

That’s according to Lesley Hume, director of digital affairs at Everstream Analytics, a provider of software-as-a-service (SaaS-based) solutions at the Foundation for Supply Chain Solutions (F4SS) conference, held in October in Las Vegas.

Hume said CM/CPs should have a plan in place to mitigate challenges, such as upstream shortages affecting their suppliers. It starts with digitizing the data collection so that it can be entered into a predictive model from a supply chain analytics firm. If a CM/CP adds supply chain risks to the planning in this predictive model and shares the generated insights and risk analysis with customers and suppliers, then they can plan based on anticipated supply chain challenges. supply chain that comes his way. This allows the CM/CP to reduce the impact of this challenge on its supply chain.

According to Hume, this method of mitigating supply chain risk requires identifying challenges all the way to the raw material supplier. LiCAP first processes a mixture of battery materials and adds a proprietary compound to activate the formulation. The mixture is then introduced into special equipment designed by LiCAP engineers. The result is a self-contained electrode film that can be laminated to current collector foil using high-speed production equipment.

There is no need for drying ovens or solvent recovery systems. Any scraps or excess electrode film can be 100% recycled, eliminating costly waste disposal operations. The activated dry electrode process is independent of technology.

Through this partnership, Sakuu plans to license LiCAP’s innovative and proprietary battery electrode technology. In addition, LiCAP plans to provide high-performance electrodes for Sakuu’s large-scale solid-state battery production needs and co-develop Sakuu’s next-generation ultra-high energy density batteries.

LiCAP’s new electrode solution is expected to become an important component of Sakuu’s AM-produced battery line. Sakuu is developing cost-effective and safe ultra-high energy density solid-state batteries that can be printed in custom shapes and sizes and are expected to be 50% smaller and 30% lighter compared to roll-to manufacturing processes -roll established.

Manufacturing scalability is widely considered to be one of the biggest challenges facing solid-state battery developers today. Sakuu’s safe, economical and ultra-high energy density solid-state batteries, which could be printed in custom shapes and sizes, introduce a new paradigm in the energy storage space.

Sakuu batteries will be produced by Sakuu’s Kavian platform (previous message) in gigafactory environments, enabling rapid, additively manufactured, high-volume, low-cost, and durable battery production to meet mass market demand. Sakuu operates two facilities in Silicon Valley, California, where it is headquartered: a solid state battery pilot line facility and a battery printing and engineering facility.
