Armadi Closets’ investment in machinery is key to producing custom products


Armadi Closets is a very successful family business founded in 2001 by Daniel and Adriana Zegen. It wasn’t their first venture, however. Before moving to the Miami area, the Zegens were in business in Argentina.

Miami seemed like a great place for their home and also their business for a variety of reasons. “People from Miami come from all over. It is considered a global hotspot and the city and surrounding areas are heavily populated. It seemed like a good fit, and it definitely was,” said Philip Seifert, COO at Armadi Closets.

Today, Armadi Closets employs 80 people, 20 of them in the office, including the CEO, managers, design team and sales staff. The installation team consists of 20 people, plus 40 people work inside the factory.

Armadi Closets projects, from the kitchen to the closet, are completely custom-designed to meet customer needs.

In addition to custom closets, the Armadi Closets product line includes wall beds, shelves, pantries, kitchen doors, custom furniture, living room wall shelves, intricate bookcases, and more.

“Our product line is not limited to this list because when your product is personalized, you go where the customer wants to go,” Seifert said. “We have our own range of handles, but we also use other materials.”

Seifert said, “We work primarily in and around Miami within a radius of about 50 miles around the city, but we’ve also taken jobs out of state, if the work warrants it, which means that it is an important project that is worth going through. We have done projects in Jamaica, Venezuela, Maryland and Washington DC”

Armadi Closets’ main machinery includes Biesse CNCs and edgebanders as well as its recently upgraded Striebig panel saws from Colonial Saw.

“The main machines include our Striebeg panel saws, our Biesse edgebanders and our Biesse CNC routers, as well as a hydraulic press. The Striebig Compact Saw is from Colonial Saw. We now have four Striebig panel saws, which were recently purchased to replace our older models, so we basically work with brand new panel saws. We also have two additional table saws and three edgebanders, two large and one small, which we plan to exchange for a larger one, all from Biesse.

“We have a new CNC router from Biesse, which we bought because it will help us with new projects. It’s awesome,” Seifert said. “You program what you want it to do on the computer, and it does it for you. We feel that this propels us into the future.

Seifert said he learned a great lesson about investing in new machinery. “We were using a typical dust collection system and, due to its design, we found that we had to waste one or two hours in the middle of the day emptying the dust collection system. It was annoying for us because it was wasting time that we would rather use to create products. We did some research, ditched the old way, and found a dust collection system that resulted in zero downtime.

Seifert said people ask how we get our customers. “Word of mouth is one way. We often find another way to get customers: if the customer has a problem, we prove that we have the solution. It’s one of the main ways we get clients,” he added.

“Customers know that our product line is not limited,” Seifert said. “We are ready to manufacture almost anything a customer wants. We are happy to be known for our completely custom work. One of our creations was to design a Shaker style closet.

Another way the company advertises is through its very iconic fleet of trucks that can be seen in and around Miami and surrounding areas. “We’ve been told that the trucks, which are very distinctive and colorful, attract people interested in hearing about our company and what we do,” Seifert said.

“We make bespoke closets – nothing is pre-made. We talk to customers, so the closet is completely bespoke to meet their needs. People seek us out because we are the experts here,” “What people want is up to us to find for them,” Seifert said.

Memorable jobs include a project where they had to remove a 12 foot high wall. “It took all day. We are used to having to rearrange a floor plan in a house or condo. That’s also part of the job,” he added.

Wall bed units are only part of the product line from Armadi Closets.

“Clients we deal with often live in high-rise buildings or apartments and condominiums in and around Miami. This requires a lot of pre-planning as well as approval from some condo boards and city or county paperwork and fees. We must have insurance, which includes being accepted by the building. We follow a process to obtain documents and agreements so that we can do our job. Some of these towers have fifty floors. And for the actual installation, we may need to move or relocate some walls. »

“We love customer challenges and we love to challenge ourselves,” he added. “The products developed and used in the closets are amazing. The push-to-open doors and drawers and the fold-down wall beds and the range of finishes are just some of the new options.

Seifert has nothing but praise for his boss, who is also his stepfather and is known for having a long day. “My stepfather Daniel Zegen works from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday to Saturday, and sometimes he even works on Sundays. For him, it’s a labor of love, and when he’s not at work, he can’t wait to get back to it. It’s his whole life. »
